Using the Legal Deposit UK Web Archive

Accessing the Legal Deposit UK Web Archive

Access to the Legal Deposit UK Web Archive is through the dedicated interface available at https://bodleian.ldls.org.uk/ldwa. As with other eLD material, content can only be accessed from a Libraries-managed PC terminal at a Bodleian Libraries' site.

Can library users copy deposited content?
No. Digital copying is not permitted by the Legal Deposit Libraries (Non-Print Works) Regulations 2013.

A note on concurrent use
The 2013 Regulations stipulate that “A deposit library must ensure that only one computer terminal is available to readers to access the same relevant material at any one time”. This is not intended to restrict the use of all legal deposit material to a single computer terminal in each deposit library, but rather to displaying the same individual work on just one screen at a time—i.e. for one reader at a time—within each Legal Deposit Library. Restrictions have been put in place by the legislation not the library.

Can online users outside the library search the library catalogues for deposited content?
If you wish to search the LDUKWA from outside the Bodleian Libraries, you can do this using the British Library catalogue at http://explore.bl.uk. This will allow you to discover what is available in the LDUKWA, but to view the material described you must visit one of the Legal Deposit Libraries.

Due to the scale of the LDUKWA, metadata records for websites included in it are not available in SOLO and there are no plans to incorporate them at this stage.

Information on web browsers compatible with LDUKWA
To enable the Legal Deposit Libraries to comply with the conditions established in the Legal Deposit Libraries (Non-Print Works) Regulations 2013, access to the LDUKWA is provided via the Ericom AccessNow HTML5 solution. The following browsers support this:

  • Apple Safari 5 and higher
  • Firefox 4 and higher *
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 with Google Chrome Frame installed
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 10
  • Opera 10.7 or better *
* For Firefox 4/5 and Opera, WebSocket support must be enabled in the browser configuration. Firefox 6 does not require any configuration change.
