Using a Laptop
Connecting a laptop to the wireless network
Wireless connectivity is available in many areas of the Taylor Institution Library, the St Giles' building Common Room and the Taylor Bodleian Slavonic & Modern Greek Library.
When you open your web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer or Firefox) you will be prompted for your University/Library card barcode number and library password. Please note that if your password is currently the same as your barcode number you will need to change it. If you need to change your library password or have forgotten your library password please ask a member of staff for advice.
If you are accustomed to using the University's OWL-VPN service to connect to the wireless network in the Library, you may continue to do so. However, you may find the new service easier to use.
Please note that the Library cannot offer computer support. If you have a technical problem, please contact your college or local computer officer, or the Oxford University Computing Services.
Please ensure that your machine is up-to-date with security patches and virus protection; and please remember that you must adhere to the University's Computer Usage Rules. If your laptop has been compromised, it will be blocked from connecting to the network.
Please operate your computer as quietly as possible in the Library, and observe any laptop free zones.
