Regular use
Bona fide researchers in the Library's subject areas may register to use the Library for reference only.
Admission is normally by (gold-stripe or brown-stripe) Bodleian Libraries Reader's Ticket. Any prospective reader intending to use the Bodleian Library and the Taylor Institution Library or intending to use the Taylor Institution Library for more than two days is requested to obtain a Bodleian ticket before their first visit to the Taylorian. Further details and the relevant application form are available from the Bodleian Libraries website. Applicants should bring a form of identification and a letter of introduction from their home institution.
Red-stripe Bodleian ticket holders may register for 12 individual days within the period of validity of the ticket.
Green- or turquoise-stripe Bodleian ticket holders (undergraduates from other UKHEIs) studying in the Library's subject areas:
Vacation: may register the ticket for any vacation during the period of validity of the ticket.
Term: may apply with a letter of recommendation from their tutor specifying a topic of study relevant to the Library and the need to use the Library during Term. Registration will be for 1 or 2 days only and will be based either on their existing turquoise-stripe Bodleian Library reader's ticket or a Taylor Institution Library temporary ticket (see below).
Mauve-stripe Bodleian tickets. Special arrangements apply - please contact the administrator of your host institution.
Brief visits
Visiting researchers intending to use the Taylor Institution Library only for a visit of 1 or 2 days may apply for a temporary card. Applications may normally only be made Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00. If you need to begin your visit after 17:00 or on a Saturday, please contact the Acting Librarian in Charge in advance of your visit.
Please ask at the Library desk for an application form. A senior member of staff will process the application and issue the card. Applicants should bring a form of identification and a letter of introduction from their home institution; applicants may wish to be introduced by a member of Congregation.
If you intend to be a regular user, please obtain a Bodleian ticket.
If you have any queries about these arrangements, please contact the Acting Librarian in Charge in advance of your visit.
