All new staff receive disability awareness training at induction. They are also kept informed of developments and are given refresher training during regular Reader Services Meetings. Many members of staff have also attended further training offered by the Bodleian Libraries Staff Development team.
Staff are always expected to show commitment to the highest quality customer care for all our readers but are encouraged to be particularly supportive towards disabled readers e.g. fetching and carrying items, guiding readers around the library, helping readers to use the equipment.
Readers need to be aware, however, that the SSL is a very busy library and there may not always be staff available to offer extra help. If this is a recurring issue they should contact the Disability Advisory Service and investigate the possibility of hiring a support worker.
