Q: I am new - can you show me how to use the library?

A: Yes, please ask Entrance Hall staff about booking a "Making the most of the RSL" session.

Q: What are the opening hours of the RSL?

A: Opening hours can be found online and are also displayed on the notice board outside the library. A printed sheet covering the current term or vacation is available at the Entrance Hall Enquiry desk.

Q: Where do I find a list of all full-text electronic journals available in Oxford?

A: Oxford University's subscriptions to electronic journals are accessible via Oxford University e-Journals. They are also catalogued on SOLO.

Q: I have found the article I want but am asked for a username and password when I want the full text displayed.

A: This may mean that you are not logged in to your library account.  If you are logged in, it usually means that our online coverage does not include the volume or year you require.

Q: Can I print from electronic resources and is there a charge?

A: Yes, you can, the cost is 6p a page and you use a Bodleian Libraries' PCAS account to pay.

Q: Where is the printer?

A: All library photocopiers are networked printers on the PCAS system.

Q: Does the library have a scanner?

A: Yes, all the library photocopiers function as scanners. Please remember copyright regulations apply (copyright notices are displayed by the photocopiers).

Q: How do I use the photocopiers?

A: You do this via your PCAS account. You can add funds to your account online using a credit or debit card.

Q: Can I borrow material from the Radcliffe Science Library?

A: Yes, if you are a member of Oxford University. See the Borrowing page for full details of what can be borrowed and for how long.

Q: Can I use my digital camera in the library to photograph pages from library material?

A: Yes, but you can't use flash and copyright regulations apply.

Q: How do I request material held in the closed stacks or offsite storage?

A: You can make stack requests using the online catalogue, SOLO. Instructions are available in the library and online, and library staff will be happy to help.

Q: I have ordered a book from offsite storage or closed stacks. Where do I collect it?

A: Stack and offsite books are delivered to a reserve in the Entrance Hall where your book will be held for one week. The reserve is not self-service so please ask a member of staff for your book.

Q: I have searched SOLO and cannot find the item I need. How can I get hold of it?

A: You can apply for an interlibrary loan. It usually takes 3-5 working days and there will be a charge for this service. Please see Entrance Hall Enquiry desk staff.

Q: Can I connect my laptop to the network?

A: Yes, there are wireless access points in all reading rooms. The username and password for accessing the Bodleian Libraries network are the same as for logging onto the Library's computers.

Q: Can I access online journals from home?

A: Yes, if you are a current member of the University you can do this if you are logged on with your University Single Sign On ID.
