A new online issue of the Journal of Animal Ecology  celebrates the life and work of Charles Sutherland Elton (1900-1991), the journal's first editor.

Charles Elton was instrumental in the growth of the study of animal ecology. He established the Bureau of Animal Population in the Department of Zoology at Oxford University, and went on to play a key role in the foundation of the Nature Conservancy Council. An archive of research data produced by him and his colleagues is now held in the Radcliffe Science Library, having been moved there from the Bodleian Libraries' Zoology Library which closed in 2010.
