Dr McEntyre is Team Leader for Literature Services at the European Bioinformatics Insititute (EMBL-EBI), which runs Europe PubMed Central. Europe PubMed Central holds about 26 million abstracts and 2.4 million full text articles, many of which are open access and available for reuse. Europe PubMed Central enriches the articles in several ways, including calculating citation networks, semantic annotation by text mining, and providing deep database links. All of the content can be searched via the website or APIs, while the open access articles can be bulk downloaded by FTP. Europe PubMed Central is developed with support of 19 UK and European funding agencies, and in collaboration with the NCBI, The British Library and The University of Manchester. Dr McEntyre was an Editor for Trends in Biochemical Sciences and a staff scientist at NCBI before joining EMBL-EBI in 2009.

The European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) is an academic research institute located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in Hinxton near Cambridge (UK), part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). Our Mission is to (1) provide freely available data and bioinformatics services to all facets of the scientific community in ways that promote scientific progress; (2) to contribute to the advancement of biology through basic investigator-driven research in bioinformatics; (3) to provide advanced bioinformatics training to scientists at all levels, from PhD students to independent investigators; (4) to help disseminate cutting-edge technologies to industry.
