Collections

The Philosophy Faculty Library is a lending library, holding around 30,000 monographs and subscribing to around 100 periodical titles.

The collection reflects the University's undergraduate philosophy courses. It also caters for graduate students, senior members and academic visitors.

Holdings cover all periods of western philosophy from classical to contemporary, with additional holdings in philosophy of mathematics and science, logic, language, ethics, history, politics and religion.

The library also houses the Fowler collection of antiquarian philosophy books.

Oriental philosophy books are held at the Oriental Institute.

All philosophy library books and journals are catalogued on SOLO which displays the location of materials and indicates if they are available to borrow.

Read our Collection Development Policy. Acquisitions are selected from reading lists, book reviews and publishers' catalogues. Requests from readers make up to 20% of purchases, and because books are often ordered and purchased locally, requests can usually be filled within 24 hours. To make requests please email the Librarian, use the Recommend a Book form, or add your suggestion to the book near the Library Office.
