23 August 2017

Duke Humfrey’s Library will now be closed from Tuesday 29 August to facilitate the lighting project.

During this period, staff in the Upper Reading Room can arrange the fetching of items from Selden End of Duke Humfrey’s Library (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm).

The expected end date for this closure is the start of Michaelmas term.

The new lights being installed in Duke Humfrey's Library will improve the illumination of both the historic features of the room as well as improving individual reader spaces. With cutting edge LED technology designed to be as unobtrusive as possible and sympathetic to the to the historic nature of the room, these lights will deliver a significantly improved reader experience, using considerably less energy to improve our carbon footprint.

Tours may need to be altered due to these works.

17 August 2017

Work to replace and upgrade the lighting in Duke Humfrey's Library will begin on Monday 21 August and continue until the end of September.

During this period sections or all of certain reading rooms will be closed off. Access to Duke Humfrey's Library may also be restricted to one staircase. Notice will be given in the event of room closures.

There will be some noise associated with this project and therefore readers may prefer to work in other reading rooms.

For any queries about access to material, please contact staff at the Main Enquiry Desk in the Lower Reading Room.
