Incorporating ORA search

There are a number of ways you can use the ORA search.

1. Use a URL and focus the search remotely say for a particular author or department. This URL can be included for example, on a website. It will search the live database so will always be up to date. Put the query you want at the end of the following:

http://ora.ouls.ox.ac.uk/access/adv_search.php?q0=[add your query here]

So if you want to search for a specific author add 'author:[author name].' An example for Prof Bishop:

http://ora.ouls.ox.ac.uk/access/adv_search.php?q0=author:bishop

Searching for items from a department for example Department of Philosophy

http://ora.ouls.ox.ac.uk/access/adv_search.php?q0=faculty:philosophy

To use the search for a specific collection

http://ora.ouls.ox.ac.uk/access/adv_search.php?q0=collection:younglives

and so on. There are many possiblities. You can see the options on the ORA search help page

You can combine more than one query to make the search more focussed or accurate, for example to retrieve items from a particular faculty with a specific publication date

http://ora.ouls.ox.ac.uk/access/adv_search.php?q0=faculty:philosophy AND copyright_date:2005

2. You can embed ORA search in a webpage so that it looks like the search on the ORA search page (ie with a search query box and a button). You can customise your embedded search to query only certain content of ORA. For example, the Department of Classics might wish to have their search box only querying items labelled as by members of that department. See the technical information below.
