We provide a wide range of services to support the information needs of doctors and dentists on training grades across Oxfordshire. We can help you find the evidence to support your healthcare practice, management, education, research, lifelong learning and continuing professional development.

NHS Athens 

Please note that NHS Athens Accounts are associated with the old ORH and NOC Trusts and will remain like that for a few months until locally purchased e-resource issues have been resolved.
Access to some resources is only possible with an ORH affiliated NHS Athens Account.

This is an access mechanism for subscription resources such as journals and databases. To get an NHS Athens username and password, go to NHS Evidence then click on Register for NHS Athens.

e-Journals

NHS Evidence My Journals provides access to over 800 full-text journals.
Remember to log in with NHS Athens to access all national and local subscriptions, including Critical Care Medicine, Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin, Foundation Years Journal.

OxLIP+ e-Journals provides online access to hundreds of health science titles. This is available to all HCL Members within the Cairns Library and Knowledge Centre.

Bibliographic Databases

NHS Evidence Healthcare Databases include the British Nursing Index, Cinahl, Embase, HMIC and many more - log in with NHS Athens.

The Transplant Library database is also available to OUH Trust staff - log in with NHS Athens (OUH Trust)

 

Outreach Librarians

Our team of Outreach librarians are happy to help you with literature searches, electronic database training, search skills advice, keeping you up to date, book and journal recommendations and general references enquiries. We are happy to meet you at your place of work if you are unable to come to the Bodleain Bodleian Health Care Libraries

We offer a wide range of training opportunities which include a regular programme of workshops as well as customised classes and one-to-one sessions. We can also provide basic and advanced induction and training sessions, as well as training sessions as part of your away days, meetings or study days.

These can be held at the Library or other location of your choice. Topics might include:

  • Essential Search Skills.
  •  Effective Use of PubMed
  •  Introduction to the Cochrane Library
  •  Searching for Guidelines
  •  NHS Evidence Health Information Resources
  •  Reference Management Software such as EndNote or RefWorks.
  •  Critical Appraisal Skills.

 

Group and Private Study Spaces (Please see our Group Study Rooms  page for more details)

Our libraries provide group study rooms that you can book in advance or just turn up and use as well as quiet places to study or browse the newspapers and latest journal issues.

 

IT Facilities(Please see our IT Facilities pages for more details)

We have over 50 PCs on the Bodleian Libraries and ORH Trust networks that you can use to access the Internet and to search all of the major healthcare databases as well as thousands of electronic journals. You can also access a range of standard office software packages.

Wireless access is available at both our sites.
