Broad Theme: Political, Religious, Social and Economic History

Political history image

This is one of the largest and most varied sections of the John Johnson Collection and also the least catalogued and digitised. Digital projects have focussed on the Political Cartoons (available through the John Johnson online catalogue and VADS (Visual Arts and Humanities Data Service) and Crime, Murders and Executions.

Crime Murders and Executions is available through the ProQuest resource The John Johnson Collection: an archive of printed ephemera.  This has been further enhanced by Mapping Crime, which forms part of the ProQuest resource. A sample of our Crime material can be seen in our image gallery.

The Political, Religious, Social and Economic History section of the Collection is the priority for cataloguing after the move of the Collection.

As a consequence, access to this material will be slightly more complicated. Please contact the Librarian of the John Johnson Collection if you would like to consult any of these boxes.

Also of interest to historians is the recently-acquired John Fraser Collection of Propaganda postcards. An index to this Collection will be posted on this page soon.
