Defining Gender, 1450-1910 is an Adam Matthew resource (available by subscription), which includes images from the John Johnson Collection in the Consumption and Leisure section.

Images have been selected from the areas of the Collection listed below. As there is some overlap with The John Johnson Collection: an archive of printed ephemera, we have indicated below where the images are on Defining Gender site only.

Discrete sections of the Collection were selected to fit in with the themes of the resource and this was not an attempt to provide access to whole sections of the John Johnson Collection.  The material is cross-searchable with other items from the Bodleian and British Libraries.

There is also an academic essay by Jeremy Black: Leisure 1650-1910; with special reference to material from the John Johnson Collecton of Printed Ephemera at the Bodleian Library, Oxford.
