Bodleian Ballads
About the Ballads
This is a stand-alone catalogue: the records and images are not included in the Johnson online catalogue. The Ballads database includes all 30,000 ballads in the Bodleian, including those in the John Johnson Collection.
- The records have links to images, scanned from microfilm.
- Some sound files are included.
- In addition to the standard bibliographical data (titles, first lines, date, imprint, names, the ballads can be searched by subject. Their iconographic content has been indexed using Iconclass.
- Images of some of the crime ballads in the Bodleian are also linked to the Mapping Crime project.
