Temporary move of John Johnson Collection

Why has the Collection moved?

The New Bodleian is undergoing a complete refurbishment from August 2011. It will re-open officially as a Special Collections Library (to be called The Weston Library) in March 2015. The building was emptied totally by end July 2011. The move of material in the John Johnson Collection began with modern material in February and the last boxes were moved to the BSF (Book Storage Facility) on Monday 25 July 2011.

What has moved?

The whole Collection has now moved off-site.

All orders need to be mediated through the Librarian of the John Johnson Collection.  Material fetched from the BSF (Book Storage Facility) will normally be read in the Special Collections Reading Room in the Radcliffe Science Library.

You should:

  • Contact the Librarian of the John Johnson Collection with details of the boxes or folders you wish to consult or the subject of your research.
  • When you know what you wish to order and how long it will take for it to reach the Special Collections Reading Room at the Radcliffe Science Library, you should make a booking direct with the Reading Room to be sure of a seat: scrr@bodleian.ox.ac.uk
  • If you do not have a Bodleian Reader's ticket (category A) you should complete the necessary Admissions forms and bring them in person to the Admissions Office before making your way to the Radcliffe Science Library. Please note that a referee is necessary for form B2

All John Johnson material orders are mediated by the Librarian of the John Johnson Collection or her colleagues through the new Integrated Library System

(Updated July 31)

How does this affect my visit?

Retrieval will take a little longer now that the material is off-site, depending on the time of day material is ordered.
