History of the Old Indian Institute Building

OII Door detail

The Bodleian History Faculty Library collections and services are now housed in the Radcliffe Camera and Gladstone Link in the central Bodleian Library site.

From 1968 to 3 August 2012, the Library was housed in the old Indian Institute Building, a building designed by Basil Champneys and which is mentioned by Nikolas Pevsner. See the Oxford History website on the History of Broad Street for more information.

Dr Gillian Evison's seminar paper, delivered at the Commonwealth History seminar December 2004, describes the history of the Indian Institute.
