Study spaces

The main study area is the Reading Room next to the main Library desk area. It has 16 seats around 2 large tables and has power points and wi-fi. The Reading Room is open from around 8.00 - 22.00 7 days per week.

Please note: The Reading Room is primarily intended for students of the Department for Continuing Education. If you are not a member of OUDCE and are not using material from the Library, you may be asked to leave at busy times.

There is some additional bench seating on the lower floor of the Library which is also equipped with power points and wi-fi.

Although we try to keep noise to a minimum, due to the nature of the Library it is difficult to provide a silent study environment.

The Library has 3 reader PCs on each floor which you can use for accessing library resources. They are equipped with the usual Microsoft etc applications, but if you are an OUDCE student, you are asked to use the Student Computer Room for use such as essay writing.

The Library also has a 'Sun Ray' terminal on each floor. These are not full PCs, but can be used to check SOLO.

The following equipment is available for use in the Library and the Reading Room. Please ask staff:

  • Height-adjustable book rests
  • Headphones
  • Adjustable reading lamp with Daylight™ LEDs
  • A high-contrast computer keyboard
  • Coloured overlays
  • Hands free magnifier (1.7x magnification)
