The Library welcomes all OUSSA students. You will receive a brief introductory tour of the Library at the beginning of your course. This page gives some basic information about library services.
Your library card
All OUSSA students may borrow up to 6 books at a time from the Library. You will find a library card together with a library guide in your course pack. Please note that the card is only valid for the Rewley House Continuing Education Library. If you are attending more than one OUSSA week, your card is valid throughout your stay.
If you already have a University or Bodleian reader's card, you can use it for OUSSA. You will not find a card in your course pack.
As well as the Library's print collections, you have access to the University's extensive collection of electronic resources using the Library PCs or via Bodleian Libraries wi-fi in the Library and Reading Room. Please ask library staff for a password, and if you would like help to find and use electronic resources.
Photocopying and printing
Please ask the library staff if you would like to photocopy or scan, charges apply. Printing facilities are available to OUSSA students in the Student Computing Facility and the Computer Teaching Room, details of these rooms will be provided in your course pack. If you would like to print from electronic resources in the Library, or you need to make colour prints, please ask the library staff. Charges apply.
The Library has 6 PCs for accessing SOLO, the library catalogue, and electronic resources. For email and writing your assignment, please use the PCs in the Student Computing Facility or the Computer Teaching Room. You will find details of these in your course pack.
The Reading Room adjoining the library entrance area is open from 08.00 - 22.00 every day. You are welcome to take books from the Library into the Reading Room. You may take laptops, tablets etc into the Reading Room which is equipped with power sockets (on the floor) and Bodleian Libraries wi-fi. Ask the Library staff for a password for wi-fi and/or using the Library PCs
Your reading list
The Library aims to have at least copy of each book on your main course reading list. Please note that the Library does not always receive supplementary lists handed out at the start of the course. Please ask the library staff if you would like help to find the items on your reading list.
Researching your topic
You can use SOLO, the library catalogue, to search for both books in the Library and electronic resources. Please ask the library staff if you would like help to use SOLO.
Certificate of Higher Education Students
If you are attending OUSSA as part of the CertHE programme, you may wish to look at the area for Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Masters students as you have Undergraduate status for library purposes.
During OUSSA there will be an opportunity for you to attend a session run by a member of library staff to help you to find and use library resources when you are not in Oxford. It is also an opportunity for you to raise and problems or queries you may have about library resources. These sessions will be advertised in the Library, on the course notice board and in the introductory session on Saturday afternoon.
