Borrowing
Anyone with a blue-topped University Card will be able to borrow books from the Sainsbury Library. Visitors with other kinds of Bodleian Card will have reference-only access to the library.
The first time you use the Sainsbury Library at Park End Street, please visit the desk to register your card. After this, you will be able to borrow books using the self-issue machine in the Lower Library.
How many items can I borrow (and for how long)?
You can borrow items for differing lengths of time depending on their location in the library. You can see a book's location when you look it up on SOLO, or at the top of the shelfmark sticker.
Books from different parts of the library can be borrowed for different amounts of time - books in the Lower Library are on reading lists and so have a much shorter loan period than the research collection in the Upper Library and Stack.
Books can be renewed remotely seven times unless otherwise stated.

Accessibility
Please contact us if your disability means that you need to borrow more books at one time, or to borrow books for longer. We would also encourage you to contact the Disability Services Librarian, who can help you to access a wide range of resources for your course.
Vacation Loans
Vacation loans start during 8th or 9th week, and are due back in 0th week of the next term. See the library News Page for exact dates. Please note that vacation loans are only available to students with no existing fines on their records.
Fines
Fines are charged on any books that you keep past their due date. We will send you a notice the day before a book is due back, however, this is a courtesy only, and you should make sure you know when your books are due to be returned.
Fines are imposed to ensure that all students have fair and equal access to required readings, and will only be waived for the most extraordinary of circumstances and through written appeal to the Bodleian Business Librarian.
- Lower Library - £1 per book per day
- Desk Confined - 50p per book per hour after 10am
- Upper Library / Stack - 20p per book per day
If the fines on your record exceed £10, then you will lose borrowing privileges until you have paid. You can pay your fines by cash or cheque at the library helpdesk, any time that the library is staffed. Failure to settle fines by the end of an academic program will be referred to college proctors and may prevent graduation.
Book Locations
SBS Lower
Reading-list texts for Saïd Business School members can be found on the walls of the Lower Library (shelfmarks A-HD) and along the wall of the stack room (shelfmarks HE-Z). These books cannot be borrowed by non-members of the SBS.SBS Desk
For reading-list texts with the highest levels of demand, we also keep one copy at the Library Helpdesk. These books can be borrowed for two hours at a time within staffed hours, for use in the library only; after 6pm (or 4pm in the vacation) they become overnight loans, due back at 10am the next working day.
SBS Upper
The Sainsbury Library's main research collection can be found around the walls of the Upper Library. You can recommend a book to be added to this collection by completing the Recommend a Resource form - we will normally fill all requests from Saïd Business School members that fall within our subject remit.
SBS Stack
The rolling stack contains duplicate copies of research books and ex-reading list texts. It is also home to back editions of journals and periodicals, as well as a collection of reference books.
SBS Careers
The Sainsbury Library holds a small collection of Careers-related texts on behalf of the Saïd Business School's Careers Team. These can be found at the end of the rolling stack, and can only be borrowed by members of the school. Popular titles include Case in Point and the Vault series.
