Quick Guide to Making a Copy
Copying books
Photocopying
Post-1900 printed books can be photocopied by readers using self-service photocopying, using a Bodleian online PCAS account.
Pre-1900 printed material may only be photocopied using the staff-mediated service. Photocopy order forms are available in each reading room. You can collect staff-mediated photocopies from the reading room, or have them posted to you.
For reasons of preservation, pre-1800 books cannot be photocopied.
Scanning & photography
Professional scans and photographs of special collections, including pre-1800 books, can be ordered from Imaging Services.
Scanners are not allowed in any reading room.
Cameras are allowed in the special collections reading rooms: readers can take photographs of the same categories of material as self-service photocopying, as well as bound volumes of post-1800 newspapers and bound volumes of Ordnance Survey maps. Please consult reading room staff for futher information.
