Inter-library Loans

ILL Applications to Other Institutions in the UK

The Bodleian Japanese Library accepts ILL requests from University members only and for materials related to Japanese studies only if they are not available in Oxford.

For requests for materials not related to Japanese studies, please refer to Inter-Library Loans and Document Supply page of the Bodleian Libraries.

 Applicants need to come in to the library and fill out an Inter-library Loan/Document Supply Request Form. £4.75 per application fee applied and the fee cannot be refunded when the search fails (Bodleian Libraries' policy.) Payment must be made in cash at the library desk.

Standard loan fee: £4.75
Standard photocopy fee (by SED/post): £4.75 

Only UK theses whose copies are available at BLDSC can be provided via the British Library Interlibrary Loan services of which BJL is a member.

Many UK Theses can now be accessed via The British Library’s theses online service, Ethos, at http://ethos.bl.uk. Please follow the instruction for individual registration to access the service.

US theses may be recommended for purchase for the BJL Loan collection.

When applying for an ILL, please provide as much bibliographical information about the item as possible. If found in UK, we may directly apply to the institution for loan or photocopy (the Bodleian Libraries' copyright regulation applied.)

We can accept e-mail dispatch, if requested.

 

ILL Applications from Other Institutions in the UK

The Bodleian Japanese Library accepts ILL requests only from those who have established the ILL account with the British Library. Please provide us the account no. and the request no.

BJL lends books and journals only if they are in good condition for lending.

We do not lend or photocopy fragile items, items with a pre-1920 publication date or reference materials such as dictionaries, maps and encyclopaedias.

The lending period is normally 3 weeks and requests for an extension of a further 3 weeks must be made in good time by telephone or by email quoting the request no.  Items may be recalled earlier if required by another reader in Oxford.

The requesting institutions should send their requests by email or post with as much bibliographical detail as possible.
