New Bodleian (the Weston Library)
The Bodleian Libraries are currently undertaking a major restoration and renovation of the New Bodleian Library building, to be reopened as the Weston Library in 2015.
The project has three aims:
- to create high-quality storage for the Libraries’ valuable special collections, which include the rare and unique manuscripts, books and maps that the Bodleian preserves for the international world of scholarship;
- to develop the Libraries’ space for the support of advanced research;
- to expand public access to our great treasures through new exhibition galleries and other facilities.
What will the Weston Library look like?

The New Bodleian redevelopment centres around a new architectural design for the building developed by WilkinsonEyre Architects.
We are grateful to the supporters who have contributed to this restoration project to date; especially to the Garfield Weston Foundation; Oxford University Press; Julian Blackwell, the President of Blackwell’s Bookshop, which neighbours the New Bodleian; and numerous other individuals and organizations.
