Filming
Hiring the Bodleian Library as a film location
We welcome film and photographic crews of all sizes, and offer a variety of unique historic locations, ranging from mediaeval and later interiors, to breathtaking rooftop views of Oxford. We can provide access to the collections behind the scenes, and our specialists are available to share their expertise in the form of interview or consultancy services. Film crews are usually permitted to film before 9am and after the Library closes in the evening. For some locations we may be able to offer a day-time slot. Please give us as much notice as possible: at least five days.
We welcome applications for feature films, television documentaries, interviews and commercials. The Bodleian has been used as a location for many films and we are experienced in working with both small and large scale filming projects. Recent productions.
Please note that the Bodleian is a working library, and there are operational constraints relating to the hire of our locations. We restrict the level of filming in Duke Humfrey’s Library, and filming in any of the reading rooms may only take place outside Library opening hours. Please contact us for further information.
